The City of Chicago is an employer subject to the Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA), which protects the employment security and workplace safety of employees who are victims of domestic or sexual violence or employees who have a family or household member who is a victim of domestic or sexual violence. VESSA provides employees with the legal right to an annual allotment of up to twelve (12) weeks of unpaid leave of absence, reasonable accommodations to workplace facilities or job requirements and protection against discrimination.
